Sacred Destinations

The last stop on our tour was the Via Dolorosa (the road Jesus walked with the cross ) and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. The site of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. In the Church is the hillside preserved under glass

The stone of unction. Belived to be the spot where Jesus' body was prepared for burial

The very spot on the hill of Golgotha where Jesus was crucified. Beneath the altar you can touch the hill

look close you can see the rock under the glass on both sides of the altar

The entrance to the tomb of Jesus (inside the church) . Originally built over the tomb in 330 A.D . Then destroyed by the Persians in 614 A.D ,Rebuilt shortly thereafter, the Egyptian caliph al-Hakim destroyed the church in 1009 .

The Crusaders rebuilt the church and most of what you see today around the 12th century
